Question
A 10-year-old boy is not doing well mentally lately, and it’s unclear why. I would like to ask, what are the causes of pediatric epilepsy?
Answer
Some causes of pediatric epilepsy have been identified, but there are still some that remain unknown. Among epilepsy syndromes, only a small portion of patients suffer from drug-resistant epilepsy, which is more challenging to treat. For some patients, surgery may be an option, but not all patients are suitable for surgery, so other methods must be used, such as the ketogenic diet, vagus nerve stimulation, or other physical therapies. Indeed, there is a small group of patients whose treatment is not effective, and for these patients, the development of more advanced treatment methods still needs to be scientifically advanced.
