Question

What are the symptoms of pediatric fever convulsions? My son is 3 years old. Yesterday, he had a severe fever, over 38 degrees. He started coughing shortly after and kept twitching while sleeping. It seemed like a fever-induced convulsion. What medicine should I give him?

Answer

Pediatric fever convulsions may manifest as upward rolling of the eyes or strabismus, stiff and jerking limbs, intermittent twitching of facial muscles, and may be accompanied by disorientation and incontinence of urine and feces. If a child’s fever is above 38.5 degrees Celsius, it is recommended to administer a fever-reducing medicine or a rectal fever-reducing suppository. If the child has a seizure, immediately loosen the child’s clothing, turn the head to one side, and prevent vomit from entering the airway to cause suffocation.
