Question

What are the symptoms and manifestations of pediatric cerebral palsy?

Answer

Children with cerebral palsy often experience sudden stiffness. Symptoms may include difficulty in bending their bodies or in giving them a hug when lying on their back. They may struggle to lift their hands and have their heads dangling slightly when picked up, with their limbs curled up. Infants may have delayed motor development, learning to sit up and use their hands flexibly later than their peers. Some children may use only a part of their body more than the other, like using one hand instead of both. Difficulty in swallowing, a purulent tongue, and difficulty closing their mouths while eating can make it very challenging for them to eat. They may become very upset and cry easily, or they might sleep excessively, remaining very calm and sleeping through the day, never smiling.
