Question
What are the symptoms of facial paralysis precursors?
Answer
Patients often suddenly discover one side of their facial muscles are weak while washing their face in the morning. The symptoms include drooping of the face and a lack of expression, and the affected side is unable to perform actions such as frowning, closing eyes, puffing out cheeks, or pouting. In addition, patients may leak air when eating or blowing a whistle due to the lips not being able to close completely, and food residue often remains between the teeth and cheeks on the affected side. There may also be saliva flowing from the affected side.
