Question

My child has developed red rashes on the legs, knees, buttocks, and a few on the hands and feet. There’s also a white ulcer-like appearance beside the tip of the tongue. The child is in pain, and today the pain has lessened, and the white has turned red. They say this is hand, foot, and mouth disease. What dietary and other precautions should be taken?

Answer

  1. Wash children’s hands with soap or hand sanitizer before meals, after using the toilet, and after going out. Do not let children drink unboiled water or eat cold foods; avoid contact with children who are sick.
  2. Caregivers should wash their hands before and after handling children, changing diapers, and dealing with feces, and dispose of waste properly.
  3. Bottles and nipples used by infants and young children should be thoroughly cleaned before and after use.
  4. During the outbreak period, it is not advisable to take children to crowded public places with poor air circulation. Pay attention to maintaining household hygiene, ensuring regular ventilation in living spaces, and frequently drying clothes and bedding.
  5. If children show related symptoms, they should seek medical attention promptly. Children with the disease should not come into contact with other children, and parents should immediately dry or disinfect the clothes of the affected child.
