Question
How should pediatric amyloidosis be treated?
Answer
Currently, there are several methods available: 1. Symptomatic treatment involves adopting a low-fat, high-protein diet, which may increase the risk of recurrence. When presenting with nephrotic syndrome, diuretics can be used; oxygen therapy can be administered when respiratory symptoms reappear. 2. Suppression of infection is essential for secondary amyloidosis, aiming to completely eliminate or suppress infectious foci, which can help slow the progression of the disease or prevent the spread of amyloidosis. 3. Peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplantation are applicable for renal amyloidosis leading to renal insufficiency, but they can only shorten the survival time of the child.
