Question
My one-year-old has had diarrhea for several days and it hasn’t improved. What medication should they take? I’ve already tried several different medications but they haven’t worked.
Answer
Since a child’s gastrointestinal system is not fully developed, their ability to fight bacterial infections is weaker. It is recommended to seek pediatric inpatient treatment and determine the type of bacterial infection. Do not self-prescribe medication. When a child has diarrhea, they can be encouraged to drink more warm water to prevent dehydration. It is also important to wash hands frequently, especially before and after meals, and to provide clean and hygienic food for the child.
