Question
What symptoms does neonatal diarrhea present?
Answer
Childhood bacillary dysentery can easily be confused with common diarrhea. The younger the child, the less typical the clinical symptoms are. It usually starts with watery stools, often accompanied by vomiting, and then progresses to an increase in bowel movement frequency but a decrease in stool volume, with stools becoming thicker and sometimes purulent. Infants with recurrent episodes may also experience rectal prolapse.
