What Symptoms Does Neonatal Diarrhea Present?

The symptoms of neonatal diarrhea may resemble common diarrhea, but their clinical presentation may be atypical, especially in younger infants. Symptoms may start with watery stools, often accompanied by vomiting, followed by an increase in the frequency of bowel movements but a decrease in volume, and stools becoming thicker and sometimes purulent. Infants with recurrent episodes may also experience rectal prolapse.
